I was born and raised on the Peninsula in Northern California. I realized my passion for photography after seeing the photos Anton Corbin did for U2’s Joshua Tree album. I was so moved by these images that I purchased my first camera and enrolled in a photo class at the local community college. Once I placed my first sheet of black and white paper into the developer and watched as the image appeared, I was hooked. After putting together a portfolio I applied to the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena. Upon entering Art Center I was convinced that I wanted to do fashion -- until the day I saw the work of Walker Evans, which completely and forever altered my
DNA. His photography changed the way in which I saw the world; from a storefront, to a chair, to a desolate road, or an old sign. Urban and rural landscapes are forever changing and I believe it's important that they are documented to avoid being forgotten. Photography is an amazing tool; it allows us to freeze time, letting the viewer not only see what once was, but also what will never be again. After graduating in 1997 I started working commercially in Los Angeles. I built up my clientele and, while being represented by Deborah Schwartz, returned to Northern California to continue expanding my career. I currently live in Sacramento with my girlfriend Amy, and our dog, Monty.
I get to regularly meet the most interesting of people and get to be a part of telling their story; an honor that I don’t take lightly. I also get to work with some of the most talented people and I am inspired by that daily. I truly feel fortunate to have the rare opportunity to do what one loves for a living.
